A statement from the Grand Pavilion - 26th June 2020

Grand Pavilion large scale shows: October 2020 – January 2021

The coronavirus pandemic has, and continues to have, a profound effect on our lives and the way we live. People’s safety and wellbeing is the foremost priority for us all. The restrictions have impacted on every part of our economy and perhaps most acutely on the hospitality, theatre and events industry.

While the guidance on what we can and can’t do is managed cautiously here in Wales, the uncertainty on the future of our theatre and events programme means that we are forced to make our own judgements on how to proceed and recover from this crisis.

It is, therefore, with a great disappointment that we have to announce our plans to reschedule or cancel all large-scale events due to take place in the main auditorium at the Grand Pavilion from October until the end of January 2021.

This very sadly means that our annual pantomime Aladdin, produced by Imagine Theatre, will not go ahead this year. We look forward to welcoming back the cast and crew for the Christmas and New Year season in 2021-22, and wish to thank them for supporting us with this difficult decision.

We would also like to thank all other performers, promoters and private hirers who were due to hold events at the Grand Pavilion this year, for their patience and understanding whilst we rearrange their bookings, and to our colleagues at Bridgend County Borough Council for their support and commitment to the venue.

Although our autumn and winter programme of events may seem a long way off, there is still significant uncertainty surrounding how and when theatres, and other event venues, will be allowed to reopen - and even when they are, the corresponding guidance and working restrictions imposed will determine how viable each step is. We need to act now in order to secure a sustainable future for the Grand Pavilion and Awen Cultural Trust.

The challenges facing theatres and venues is now well publicised and, as a registered charity dedicated to providing cultural opportunity, Awen will do its bit in supporting other activities and play a prominent role in the national conversation on how theatres can transition back into places where people can once again gather to socialise, enjoy and learn.

We will be contacting customers by email and telephone with respect to transferring tickets to rescheduled dates or arranging refunds. We politely request that you wait to be contacted by us, over the coming weeks, and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding whilst we deal with thousands of people.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support, donations and kind messages – we really do appreciate it.

This year The Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl will be home to with the hilarious family friendly pantomime, Aladdin.

With a law decreeing that the princess can only marry a prince, and the evil Abanazar up to no good, it looks as though Aladdin’s dreams may never come true. And he’s not the only one! Aladdin’s mum Widow Twankey, has got the mixed-up Chinese laundry blues which are not helped by the fact they’re also very poor…If only Aladdin could make his fortune and then all their dreams could come true.

Once again The Grand Pavilion promise a show packed full of side-splitting slapstick comedy, stunning special effects and marvellous musical numbers that you will be singing for days afterwards, all in one magical show that is suitable for everyone to enjoy whether they are 3 or 103!

24 / 06/ 2020 - Pantomime 2020 Postponement Announcement

After careful consideration and in light of the most recent guidelines issued by the Scottish Government, it is with enormous regret that we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 pantomime, Beauty and the Beast. However we are not saying goodbye completely, oh no we’re not! The pantomime will be back for our Christmas season in 2021.

We have made this decision after carefully assessing the options open to us in relation to social distancing within our venue as well as the financial risk for us and our producers, but most importantly we believe that you need to experience a pantomime in a packed auditorium with a large audience full of families who can interact with the actors on stage, as that is the beauty and tradition of pantomime. If we are unable to achieve that this year then we would not be doing the artform justice. Therefore, postponing until next year feels like the most sensible, fair and safe option.

“It was with a heavy heart that we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone this year’s pantomime. We understand the impact this will have; however, the safety of our customers along with that of the cast and our staff is our main priority. Please be assured this decision was not taken lightly and we are currently researching any and all opportunities to provide another form of festive entertainment.” Lesley O’Hare, Culture and Libraries Manager

The theatre are in the process of finalising the schedule for next year and their Box Office team will then be contacting everyone who has booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast as soon as possible with options to transfer your booking to 2021; you may wish to review your booking and other options including refunds and credit towards tickets for other shows will be also be available. In the meantime please bear with them and thank you for your support and patience.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
THE HEXAGON PANTOMIME 2020/21 POSTPONEMENT.

Statement date - Thursday 16th July 2020

Dear friend,
After careful consideration and in light of the most recent guidelines issued by the UK Government, it is with enormous regret that we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020/21 pantomime Beauty and the Beast, at The Hexagon.

However, we are not saying goodbye completely, oh no we’re not! Beauty and the Beast will return for our Christmas season in 2021-22. Rest assured that Justin Fletcher and Paul Morse will be with us in 2021.

All existing tickets and seats will automatically transfer over to the relevant 2021/2022 performances, where possible. (Please see the schedule below).

We have made this decision after assessing the options open to us in relation to social distancing within our venue as well as the financial risk for us and our producers, but most importantly we believe that you need to experience a pantomime in a packed auditorium with a large audience full of families who can interact with the actors on stage, as that is the beauty and tradition of pantomime. If we are unable to achieve that this year then we would not be doing the art-form justice. Therefore, postponing until next year feels like the most sensible, fair and safe option. The well-being of our customers, staff and performers must be our first priority.

Steve Boden, Managing Director, Imagine Theatre:"We are very disappointed that we will be unable to stage pantomime in the Hexagon this Christmas but are delighted that this is only a temporary postponement and that Justin and Paul will star in Beauty and the Beast in December 2021".

Cllr Karen Rowland, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation:
“Reading’s award-winning panto is one of the highlights of the entertainment calendar – so this is very sad news indeed – but understandable given the current safety restrictions in place for theatres. We will all eagerly look forward to its return the following year".

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE HEXAGON AT THIS STAGE, we will email you again in the next seven to ten days with full instructions and options. You will of course have the option of a full refund, transfer of tickets to a different performance or a credit to your Reading Arts account, if you can't make your rescheduled performance date. Please note that the Reading Arts phones lines are currently unavailable.

In the meantime, please check the date and performance that you booked below against the new dates:

Download the 2021/22 Panto schedule here

We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience, continued understanding and support in these difficult circumstances and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Hexagon soon.

Very best wishes,

Sarah Cox, General Manager, on behalf of the Reading Arts Team and all at Imagine Theatre.

We've been assessing how our theatres will re-open as we emerge from lockdown in the hope that Snow White at the Adam Smith Theatre could go on but such is the uncertainty around how the coming months will unfold that we have had to accept that panto with restrictions would not be the fantastic experience we all know and love.

Aladdin - Rotherham 2020 - Postponed to 2021

Box Office

01709 823621

Announcement from Rotherham Civic Theatre - 21st July 2020

Theatres across the country are making the tough decision to reduce their staff teams or close their venues. Rotherham Civic Theatre is pleased to confirm that it has no plans to permanently close the theatre or to reduce our staff team, however with great reluctance, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the re-opening of Rotherham Civic Theatre until Spring 2021.

The government guidance and regulations place strict social distancing rules on theatres and performing arts venues both now and in the next phase of recovery. The reality of social distancing in a theatre setting is that the capacity within the auditorium is reduced to less than 10%. In discussion with industry bodies we expect social distancing for venues like ours to continue for some time, potentially even into the new year.

For this reason, to reopen with any kind of social distancing in place would not be financially viable, nor would it offer the quality of experience that we want for our audiences.

Our first priority continues to be the safety of our staff, audiences and guest performers, as we explore ways of providing the moments of community, joy and hope that we know theatre brings to our lives.

This sadly means that our much-loved pantomime Aladdin, will be postponed. However, we are working with our panto producers Imagine Theatre, to take this Christmas tradition out into communities in different ways, featuring an exciting magic box of tricks and wizardry along with a few surprise guest appearances up our puffed sleeves.

While it may not be the theatre that we know and love, for now we will continue working hard to ensure as many people as possible in Rotherham have access to theatre and the team will continue to develop new programmes for a time when we are able to be together again.

We will be contacting customers who bought tickets for shows during this period and ask for your patience as you wait to be contacted by us over the coming weeks.

The Civic Theatre team would like to thank our staff, audiences, artists, performers and communities who continue to show us great kindness, loyalty and support.

Anyone wishing to donate to the theatre to help us continue to support local and national performers and organisations at this difficult time, can do so via the Theatre website

—————————————————————————————————————-

Announcement from the Beacon Arts Centre on 12th August 2020

After careful consideration of the most recent guidelines issued by the Scottish Government, it is with enormous regret that we announce our decision to postpone this year’s pantomime, Cinderella, until Christmas 2021.

A message from our Theatre Director, Pauline Kane, “The Beacon’s pantomime is a highlight of Inverclyde’s cultural calendar and has established itself as a popular Christmas tradition for many families from the local area and beyond. Under the current restrictions, we are unable to produce the panto experience our audiences have come to know and love – that of a packed auditorium, high energy crowds and of course, the hilarious on-stage antics of our much-loved regular cast members. We are deeply saddened to lose panto this year, but our priority is the safety of our staff and audiences. Therefore, postponing until next year feels like the most sensible, fair, and safe option, and we promise that next year’s show will be the biggest ball in town!”

Our box office team will be contacting all ticket holders, in performance date order, with available options. We ask that audiences keep their tickets for next year’s show to help support us through this difficult period where possible. If this is not an option, we ask that bookers consider an account credit to book for a later date, or donate all, or part of refunded tickets to help our organisation deliver an exciting programme of shows, events, classes and workshops when we reopen.

Cinderella WILL go to the ball (in 2021!) And we can’t wait to welcome you back to the Beacon.

8th September 2020 - Beauty and the Beast has now been postponed until 2021

We regret to confirm that our 2020 pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, has now been postponed until 2021. This difficult decision has been reached due to the impact of ongoing restrictions on indoor performances.
