What we are looking for

This placement is suited to someone with a strong interest in Stage Management who wishes to further develop their practice within a busy professional environment. We are looking for someone who is driven and focused with a real passion for theatre and even better a love of all things pantomime! This placement will focus on developing strong transferable Stage Management organisational and planning skills. There will also be a strong emphasis on developing prop making and refurbishment skills. We are looking for someone who will thrive under the pressure of this busy department. This is an ideal placement for anyone looking to enter professional Stage Management at any level and particularly those who want to focus on the role of ASM as an entry point into the industry.

The Role

This placement role sits within the busy operations department. The department has five full time members of staff lead by the Head of Operations, it includes Head of Wardrobe and an Assistant, Head of Music and Production and Head of Stage Management and Props. The department is supported by a regular pool of freelance staff. Across the department we support all aspects of our productions from an operational, logistical, and technical perspective. We work closely as a team and within the role although you will be focusing mainly on props and stage management you will be required to support all areas of this busy department. Duties will include but are not limited to:

Core Duties

  • Script reading and the creation of props lists

  • Tracking script changes and updating lists as required

  • Attend production meetings and take notes as required

  • Stock checking within the props department

  • Research and prop sourcing

  • Creation of paper props

  • Basic prop making

  • Prop refurbishment

  • Basic painting

  • Ongoing cataloguing and organisation of the props floor

  • Pull, pack and label props for all productions ready for safe transportation

  • Unpack check and put away props and special effects post season
